Steve Jobs Quote – Cement Vinyl Decal – Scan Offices

Dear Apple,

Thank You.

I would consider myself ungrateful if I did not recognize the role that Steve Jobs and the other hard working individuals at Apple have played in my career. Apple has empowered and enabled me to do what I love at my very best.

I love my job. I find great joy in designing and creating valuable apps and other products.

Most of the design I do is iOS, or in other words, for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. When I’m at home or work I’m designing on my iMac. When I’m traveling my tool of choice is my MacBook Pro. Once a design of mine is complete it is beautifully implemented and distributed via the iTunes App Store. Our app, Scan, was downloaded over 10 million times it’s first year and so much of that is in great thanks to the incredibly wide distribution powers of the App Store. More important to me than that “big” number is the satisfying joy to know that my work has been seen and enjoyed by over 10 million people in over 77 different countries around the world.

The Newest Addition to the Scan Office

About the time we we’re moving Scan from our hometown of Provo, Utah to Scan Francisco, California, I came across the brilliant work of Jared McDaniel. He had taken a popular quote by Steve Jobs and worked it into an amazing piece of typography. After reaching out to him and with his permission, I recreated his masterpiece into a vector file so that it could then be produced as a vinyl decal and applied to the cement wall of our new office. (note: Application of vinyl decals is no simple task. I recommend using a professional. In this case, the skilled craftsman, Jiovan Melendez.)

All the inspiration that Steve Jobs and Apple have exemplified is for not if we don’t internalize and faithfully act on it. Everyday we have 100+ reasons to go the ways of the world and become a “square peg”. Stay round. Be your best self. Live with courage. And let’s change the world for the better in ways that only we can.
